Free Holiday
I had a weeks break in tenerife in september and at the airport my wife was approached by some woman who asked her to enter a competition for a free holiday. She gave a few details and neither of us gave it any further thought.
Yesterday wghile working at home I get a phone call telling me we have won a free weeks accomodation in tenerife or Costa Del sol for 6 people but have to pay for flights which can be taken any time in the next year.
Has anyone else heard or had the same? I imagine it is a timeshare thing but is it worth taking the offer and going anyway?

The only thing you will have to pay for your free week is something like a £39 booking fee and the cost of getting there. All they give you is a free weeks accomodation in return for one day looking at the site and listening to their sales pitch. You can then walk away and enjoy the rest of your stay either on the resort or down in Playa if you want.

Re: Free Holiday
Ours was in their Spanish HQ on the Costa del Sol but as part of our deal we have already booked another free week in one of their Tenerife sites in september next year. Seriously on both free holidays we have had the one day of sales which you have to agree to as part of the freebie and then they leave you alone for the rest of the week. They reckon around 80% of people who take the free holiday evenentually become members when they see how good the facilities are. We were well impressed although our intention is not to use the CLC sites but swap for destinations all over the world so already in process of booking Mexico for two weeks next May.

"Still a bit sceptical of how that will pan out but time will see. "

That should give you a clue... signed up to something costing several thousand pounds and still a bit sceptical?

It's not a game, don't think you are being clever trying getting one over them by getting something for nothing. The fact you are even considering it indicates to me that you may be a bit more gullible than you think. The lure of a something "free" is getting you.

There is a reason these operations have now shifted abroad and away from UK consumer protection and FCA regulations.

I investigate these types of scams / high pressure sales pitches regularly. I see the fall out from it, hence the straight talking in this post which I hope you take in the spirit it is intended.

Load up your phone/laptop with some serious pictures of decent places all around the world.

With serious ham acting, dramatically select one or more shot and "compare" what they are offering with the picture of "your other holiday drum in (insert exotic location here)".

When you get the salesman's attention, "Tut!" loudly and say "Can't see this as a step up from what I've already got here," then go back to looking at more pictures.

Repeat as needed.

I won one of these when in Tennerife a few years back. The place was such a shithole (Fawlty Towers bar etc) I gave the prize straight back.

My thoughts too, if I refuse to sing or pay anything then they cant do anything anyway. Easier to be scepticla than it is to actually see if you can benefit yourself. Was it in Tenerife? Surely if they kept hassling you you could just geta cab to the beach or something.

I was initially just like you and most of the others on here - Too good to be true and all that. We took a chance and had a good time. We had a second free holiday last year and actually joined up on the new holiday ownership scheme. Still a bit sceptical of how that will pan out but time will see. Just remember bottom line is no one can make you sign anything you don't want to!

Re: Free Holiday
Sounds worse than it is. You get a free breakfast of lunch out of it for all your party, then a tour of the site seeing various appartments. In the end you go back to the sales office and they go through the standard presentation and sales patter. At our first one we just said we are paying for the kids to go to Uni and that was that and they left us alone for the next 6 years. It is basically time share but if you can put up with 4 hours, you have free accomaodation for a week in a 5 star appartment.

Thaks for the feedback all, I was tempted but I am now thinking it is not worth the hassle. Burns, TB would not be coming as he already has his villa in the Algarve. Sadly he has not extended the invite to anyone other than his kids.

Re: Free Holiday
Mate of mine used to work for one of these firms. He turned up at the airport with the 'free transfer' and proceed to drive them around to various building developments before taking them to their 'free' accommodation. He got paid well for what it was so never pressured anyone. He left that to the pressure wankers at the two or three meetings they were obliged to attend. This company paid for flights too though. Steer clear

Re: Free Holiday
It's not a free holiday if you have to pay for flights. Basically they're giving you somewhere to kip with a lot of grief thrown in.

just check the T&C's. Know what you are getting into.

Re: Free Holiday
We had two free holidays with Club La Costa before we actually joined as full members last year. You have to put up with one days hard sell whilst you are there but just say no at the end of the day and enjpy the rest of the free week without any hassle.
